The fort was built by the Spanish in 1675. You are probably wondering who lived in the fort, well, let me tell you no one lived in the fort. Guards would sleep there when they were needed for night duty.
The beds were for the soldiers to occasionally take a rest. The fort was to be used as a hospital for the injured after battles. When the soldiers were in battle many weapons were used. One of the most common was the cannons when the fort was attacked from the outside.
But sometimes the enemies got inside and then they would use weapons like double edged swords and muskets and sometimes smaller cannons. Weapons were not the only thing that protected the fort, the way the fort was built also protected itself. For one, the fort was surrounded by water on three sides, and on the forth side it was guarded by three rows of armed soilders, and a steel fence, and a draw bridge.
Last but not least you are probably wondering who was attacking the fort. Well, wonder no more. The enemies were the British, they wanted to control the fort and take the Spanish as their slaves.
